Open Internet Coalition Supports Internet Freedom Preservation Act

Statement by Markham Erickson, Executive Director of the Open Internet Coalition:

“Over the last several months, we have seen repeated activities by the telephone and cable companies that threaten the existence of an open Internet. Verizon, AT&T, and Comcast have all engaged in actions that collectively, if left unchecked, will hasten the end of the Internet as the greatest platform for openness and innovation in our nation’s history.

“The bipartisan Internet Freedom Preservation Act, co-sponsored by Representatives Ed Markey (D-MA) and Chip Pickering (R-MS), is an important step in ensuring the Internet remains open for consumers and innovators. This bill, expected to be introduced today, will make Net Neutrality the law of the land, and will require the FCC to protect Internet freedom from the predatory efforts of the telco and cable gatekeepers.

“We look forward to full consideration of the bipartisan Internet Freedom Preservation Act – to ensure the Internet can continue to foster innovation, consumer choice, and economic growth.”
